The hypodermic Syringe theory is a theory that talks about how the media injects us with ideas which we process and then copy it. This has influenced our behaviour to how we interpret media that is portrayed in front of us as we are under the control of media and we are shown to be their puppets. The theorist i am going to link the theory with is gunter kress where he says the genre changes and then new genres are developed when situations in society change and then new situations occur. This talks about how texts are embedded with assumptions about the ideal reader including their attitudes towards the subject matter ie. the media influence people about political issue like the prime minister going to iraq and how the british have been injured fighting against iraq. Another example would be like rihanna how she has changed her hair colour from black to red and so did a few others due to her so this means they have copied her hairstyle to see they can become the same.
A criticism of this theory would be that whatever the media says not every one does that as some people believe that certain people can decide they are their own controllers of life and some think that they are controlled by the media. for example i have found out that rihanna dyed her hair but not everyone did so it means we get to chose what we want to listen to and what not to listen to.
In my own opinion i disagree a little with the statement as i chose to listen to some types of media texts where as most people tend to listen to all. I think that we have a choice if we want to follow certain media texts for example can be seen in the video below.

as you can see in the video the class of 18 students have been split into the two teams where boys and girls have been mixed in both teams. in this video it talks about the team on the right disagreeing with the statement that people are not influenced by the media whereas the team on the left was agreeing with the statement that people are influenced by the media by giving examples to back up their thoughts.
Each point for agreeing was matched with a disagree arguement.
I think that this video conveys each side of the argument where it talks about people trying to copy what they see on the tv ie would be where people tend to copy the same dress style as Rihanna, Pink, Wiz khalifa as one of the boys in my class camed dressed in black jeans and a yellow hoody to show he is influenced by the song black N yellow. Another example would be like rihanna how she has changed her hair colour from black to red and so did a few others due to her so this means they have copied her hairstyle to see they can become the same. I think that gunter kress is related to the hypodermic syringe theory as this theory means when the media injects us with information that we tend to interpret and copy so this means we take it in an then process it and copy it. I think that gunther kress's theory that genre changes when the situation in society changes and new situations occur therefore new genres are developed is actual being conveyed in the video as when there is a new topic discussed in the media then it goes on to influencing that idea to millions of people. However i think that society are injected with the information they see and they tend to copy it and become what ever they see and hear.
